The origin of the mint can be traced back to the foundation of the Kingdom of Hungary. Mint has 1000 year traditions of coinage, which began with minting of the silver denar in 1001, with King Stephen's name.
As a private company the Hungarian Mint is wholly owned by the Hungarian National Bank and is responsible for production of circulating coins of the Hungarian forint. The mint also produces a range of commemorative coins and medals.
