Slovenská
národní galerie (SNG) vznikla v roce 1948 jako vrcholná státní uměleckohistorická,
sběratelská, vědeckovýzkumná a kulturně výzkumná instituce. Její činnost
se zaměřuje na akvizici, výzkum, ochranu, restaurování a prezentaci
kulturního dědictví ve všech výtvarných disciplínách. Zpočátku se
akviziční činnost orientovala hlavně na malířství, sochařství, kresbu
a grafiku, později se rozšířila o artefakty užitkového a naivního umění
a oblast scénografie, umělecké fotografie, architektury a o kolekci
intermediálních tendencí.
SNG vydává množství umělecké literatury. K dispozici má největší
umělecko vědeckou knihovnu na Slovensku, archiv výtvarného umění a centrální
katalog. Sídlí v pozděbarokní budově Vodních kasární na dunajském
nábřeží v Bratislavě.

Establishment of the Slovak National Gallery
The
Slovak National Gallery (SNG) was established in 1948 as the highest state art
historical collecting and cultural – educational institution. In directed
its activities towards acquisition, research, preservation, restoration and
presentation of the cultural heritage in all disciplines of the creative arts.
At first, acquisition activity was oriented especially towards painting,
sculpture, drawing and graphic design, but later it was extended to practical
artifacts and naive art, as well as the areas of scenography, artistic
photography, architecture and a collection of inter – media tendencies.
The SNG publishes a large amount of literature about art. It has the largest
library of publications about art in Slovakia, an archive of creative art and
a central catalogue. It is situated in the Late Baroque building of the Water
Barracks by the Danube in Bratislava.

Die
Slowakische Nationalgalerie (SNG) entstand im Jahre 1948 als höchste
staatliche kunsthistorische, wissenschaftliche Forschungs-, Kulturerziehungs-
und Sammelinstitution. Ihre Tätigkeit orientiert sich auf die Akquisition,
Forschung, den Schutz, die Restaurierung und Präsentation des Kulturerbes in
allen Disziplinen der bildenden Kunst. Anfangs orientierte sich die
Akquisitionstätigkeit vor allem auf die Malerei, Bildhauerei, Zeichnung und
Graphik, Später wurde sie um Artefakte der Gebrauchskunst, de naiven Kunst,
um das gebiet der Szenographie, der künstlerischen Fotografie, der
Architektur sowie um eine Kollektion intermedialer Tendenzen erweitert.
Die SNG gibt eine Vielzahl kunstwissenschaftlicher Literaturwerke heraus. Ihr
steht die größte kunstwissenschaftliche Bibliothek in der Slowakei zur Verfügung,
das Archiv der bildenden Kunst und der Zentralkatalog. Sie hat im Spätbarocken
Gebäude der Wasserkasernen am Donauufer in Bratislava ihren Sitz.
